Their first case brings them to a small town plagued with sightings of unexplained beasts. Murderous Mercreatures? Check. Bloodthirsty birdmen? Naturally. Organ-harvesting Chupacabras and a fire-spewing dragon? Oh yeah.

When the horde launches an all-out assault, the Legend Trippers must make a do-or-die choice fight back or let the entire world become a graveyard.

Finding the monsters was easy. Defeating them? That’s going to be killer.

LEGEND TRIPPERS is the first book in a paranormal action adventure series for both teens and adults. It will especially appeal to fans of The X-Files, Jurassic Park, and Ghostbusters.

Legend Trippers Screaming is Believing edition by Michael Cahill Literature Fiction eBooks

I am a fan of the paranormal and a fan of YA adventure so this was a slam dunk from a plot premise perspective. Basically we start the book with a group of kids trying to start a group, trying to get through school in a half-way interesting way. They need to recruit a younger kid who has trouble with English and a teacher who has long since become disenfranchised. It becomes `kinda'-like'Scooby Doo with a faculty member in tow. In typical YA fashion the plot skips over some of the tedious stuff and gets straight down to a field trip and the true adventure.

The adventure is a good one, it is not your plain white vanilla, run of the mill scary monster stuff. The characters do attempt to use a bit of guile and credulity about their escapades right up to the point where the monsters stop playing fair. The plot then becomes a race to get out of the way of the beasts whilst in the background an intriguing plot builds and some surprising comrades are of useful assistance.

I like the pace of the book and the plot which kept me interested and wanting to read on. The characters are quite well developed and there is a little bit of romance in the air also. At times they felt a little two dimensional as the explosive plot moved so rapidly that the individuality of the players phased out for a moment, but that is ok. In the end this is a very interesting YA read and one for the paranormal lovers and one for drama lovers also.

Legend Trippers Screaming is Believing edition by Michael Cahill Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is a wonderful book for pre-teens and YA who love sci/fi and paranormal genre. It is packed with action, adventure and plenty of scary monsters to spice up the story. It is an edge of your seat thriller that will leave you wanting more.

The story has well developed characters one preteen and the five teens who start a club in high school, The Legend Trippers. These kids are known as nerds and weirdos because of their interest in paranormal creatures. They enlist a teacher who is somewhat reluctant and a non-believer in such things to sponsor their club. They go on an adventure to find some Chupacabras and Sasquatch and Owlmen among other monsters and get into more than they expected from this trip.

This could be the start of something big with students starting their own Legend Tripper Clubs all over. I would recommend this book for all teens who love exciting stories. I expect to see this author becoming famous alongside Rick Riordan in this genre.

I look forward to reading more of Michael Cahill's books.
This is yet another one of those stories where I wish allowed half stars. It's somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. I don't think I'm really the target market for this book, but I think MG and YA boys will get a kick out of this story.

I like monsters, conspiracy theories, things that go bump in the night, and EXPLOSIONS. When Micahel Cahill requested a review for Legend Trippers, I was excited to find a book that put together all of my favorite things.

15-year old Zachary Larkin is a bit of an odd-ball. He's the type of tin-foil hat, conspiracy theory loving teen that the rest of his high school wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. His hobby? Studying and tracking cryptids, legendary animals yet to be recognized by science.

Zachary persuades his school's principal to allow him to create a Legend Tripper club. He and his band of misfit friends -- plus the club's reluctant faculty advisor, Mrs. Stafford -- plan to investigate reported sightings of chupacabras. But when their investigation turns up concrete evidence, Zachary and his friends must put their legend tripping skills to the test and fight for their survival.

What I liked about this book
I LOVED the characters here. In books with this much action and monster madness, it's easy for writers to lose sight of their characters and dive head-first into plotting. Cahill stays true to his characters and allows each of them to shine. Readers will find themselves able to connect to at least one of these characters. While each of the kids in the story is unique, I found myself most identifying with Mrs. Stafford, the teacher sponsor of the club (Gasp!! Sign #1 that I'm now an old person). So many YA novels paint adults as obnoxious or stupid, but Cahill does a great job with Mrs. Stafford's character, showing her as a skeptic who still appreciates and respects even the wackiest of her students.

What I didn't like about this book
I felt like there was a bit of a disconnect between the protagonists, who were very realistically drawn (I went to high school with some Zachary's and Aidan's!) and the antagonist, who is cartoonishly evil. When their story lines converge, I had a hard time imagining all of those characters existing in the same world.

Final verdict
If you're looking for a book for a boy YA or MG reader, this would be a great choice. There's tons of action (some gore, but nothing too awful), and of course, MONSTERS. I know a few kids who would love this story, but adult readers might find this a bit too 'fluffy'.
